Six picks for spring

Aside from a few brief cold moments spring is officially here in the south. Warmer weather and a perfect breeze brings plenty of outside activities such as crawfish boils, picnics, trips to the zoo, or just a leisurely bike ride. Enjoy this great weather while you can until summer creeps up and slaps us with heavy rain and high humidity. So finish packing away your coats and freshen up your wardrobe with my six picks for spring.

 Spring is all about patterns but not necessarily in pastels. This skirt from Francesca's would  satisfy my repetitious craving.

 This grey dress from Hemline is just begging for some brightly colored accessories, such as a bold statement necklace.



 Looking for the perfect al fresco dining dress?  This rich purple dress with embroidery from Lady Soho fits the bill.

My next three picks are for the men of Slow Southern Style. I can't forget about y'all!

There is something so right about chambray. It gets better with each washing and lets you step away from the iron in warm months. This classic look at Shoefty gets a small update via the red button in the middle. Pair it with white linen or khaki and you're set.

 If your shirt requires cuff links why not have some fun with this floral pair from Style Lab?

 These shorts from Banana Republic are relaxed yet dressy enough to wear them without feeling sloppy.

The men of the south are true peacocks and my goal for this site is to feature individuals with a real sense of personal style. 

I don't get a chance to snap pictures often, much less of total strangers but I'm  attempting a semi regular men's post and naturally my first subject matter is my husband.  

I really lucked out and found a guy who needs little to no help dressing himself. He's a Yankee but I usually don't hold that against him. So without further ado I officially introduce you to my partner and best friend.

Show & Tell

I'm in desperate need of sandals (my husband might have a different opinion) since 1. I got a new foot tattoo that I want to show off and 2. summer will be here soon.  Luckily  I found two really great  pairs week and even the hubby agrees.


The weather has been beautiful so I decided to stroll down to La Divina for a quick bite on my lunch break. An innocent panini run turned into a shoe shopping spree when I stopped into Ah-ha while waiting for my to go order. Ah-ha always stocks Reef flip flops, which is what I wandered in for but I walked out with these Dolce Vita sandals instead. I've been wearing a lot of gray and blue lately and I think these will work well with skirts and dresses.  I really love the way they tie at the back and the pale pink and blue is a nice splash of color.

 

Keeping in the Magazine St. shoe shopping theme I couldn't resist these silver fish skeleton sandals from Buffalo Exchange. They are a fun addition to my shoe collection and for a measly $19.50 I really couldn't pass them up.

• If you're on the Northshore on Saturday, March 20th sit in on "Toolbox Divas with Becky Burt from 10am-5pm.  The class shows participants how to make jewelry out of common hardware store items. Admission is $100, $90 for members plus a $10 fee for supplies.
• Spring cleaning? Head to Buffalo Exchange to sell what you don't wear and buy some new (to you) items. Just check their website to see what they are looking for.
• SHOP on Magazine St. is closing their doors at the end of March. All merchandise will be on clearance until they close. 

Something old, something new

Have you ever gone to an antique shop, saw a beautiful yet flawed piece of jewelry and thought "I could do something with that?" I constantly get ideas to rework a piece but my thoughts rarely come to fruition. Jordan of Opulent Oddities has created a business that does exactly this. Based in Florida she is an artist and jewelry designer who works with antique and vintage pieces. Taking cues from the origin of the pieces she recreates them into something wearable and modern yet maintains the pieces original charms. She describes her work as "Opulence, curiosity, sensuality, antiquity, mystery, romance, sophistication". Antique chandelier crystals, handbag linings, brooches and baubles are just some of the materials she works with.

I'm back from my beautiful San Francisco trip and getting tattooed (locally). While I'm getting over a cold and foot swelling enjoy this week's roundup of news, just in time for the weekend.

• Belladonna Day Spa is now offering Minx manicures and pedicures. Minx is a flexible film application that can be customized with graphics, metallic colors, and photo quality designs. 
• Broad Street Bazaar is having its monthly market this Saturday, March 13th from 11:00am-4:00pm. Jewelry, health screenings, and food vendors of just some of the offerings.
• Swap your kicks and hear some hip hop at the Kicks & Snares event at the Howlin' Wolf this Saturday from 3:00pm-$8:00pm. The $10 cover gets you into the sneaker exchange and features more than 25 artists.
• "Extraordinary Women" is the theme of Project Red Light's fifth annual fashion show featuring fashions from The Villa, The Red Carpet, and The Edge. The show takes place on Thursday, March 18th at 5:00pm at Benedict's Plantation in Mandeville, LA. There will be live entertainment, martini bar, and live and silent auctions. Proceeds go to the Project Light Foundation and the $50 tickets can be purchased at Buzy Bodies in Mandeville and Covington.

I'm going on another brief hiatus on Thursday, this time for reasons more fun than moving! I'm visiting two of  my best friends in San Francisco for 5 days. In the meantime here are some news bits to hold you over.
